Your True Self – Love & Light

Who are you? Are you the objects that you are aware of such as the body, the mind, or the senses?

Or, are you the one that is aware of them?

If you are seeing it, then that means that it is not you, because you are the one who sees it. If you slow down and pay attention to the one who sees the object, then you will begin to know yourself, the one who is conscious.

In yoga we say that Pure Consciousness is your true Self, and the false self is your identity with the objects that you see (body, mind, senses). Consciousness illuminates the objects, and it does not judge, resist, cling, fear, or hate. This reveals the nature of Consciousness: Love & Light. This is your true nature.

Your true nature never changes, only the objects that you see change. It is because we forget our true self, and identify with the objective mind and body, that we act out of conditioned perceptions, judgements, and become trapped in unconscious reactions (craving, hatred, etc.).

The goal of yoga is to remember your true self, and to drop the false self. This return to Love & Light completely frees us from ignorance and suffering, and it allows us to live as a Light in the world. We become a source of Love and Peace for others, instead of judgment and agitation.

Realizing the Light & Love within yourself is like lighting a candle that can be used to light other candles, you can then help others find the Light within themselves. It is the only power of Love that heals us, our relationship with others, and the world as a whole… so wake up and shine, and be a Light for all to see!

Practice “Being Consciousness”:

1.     Sit in a relaxed upright position

2.     Become conscious of the present moment and ask yourself: ‘Who am I? Am I the objects that I’m aware of or am I the one who is aware of them?’

3.     See how you not the objects that you are aware of, you are the Consciousness who is aware of the objects. Observe the nature of Consciousness – the true Self.

4.     Remain as you are and just be Consciousness. Practice in this way for about 10-15 minutes.
